1958 ELECTRIC WINDSHIELD WIPER-CLUNK AT END OF BLADE TRAVEL

If a clunking noise occurs at the end of the blade travel on mode ls equipped with elec tric windshield wiper s, it is probably due to improper adjustment of the armature end-play adjusting screw-Refer to Item 9, Diagram 1. If this adjustment is loose there will be excessive backlash be tween the armature worm gear and the drive gear. The correction proced ure is as follows:

  • Remove intake grille assembly
  • Right hand linkage rod (upper rod) from drive arm.
  • Loosen end play adjustment screw lock nut (Item 8, Diagram1).
  • Tighten end play ad justment screw finger tight. Drive arm should move only slightly in either direction.
  • Tighten lock nut, install linkage rod and intake grille assembly.
