Conscientious detailers worry about scratching or chipping chrome off nice lug nuts when removing the wheels. To protect their finish, place a piece of plastic over them before using the lug wrench. A heavy-weight freezer bag will work nicely. Be sure the wrench is properly seated on the nut though– the extra thickness of the plastic can make this slightly more difficult.
