About the C6

The C6 Corvette is the current generation Vette and began its production in 2005. One of the more obvious cosmetic deviations for the C6 from the previous generations was the fact that the headlights were clearly visible though molded and sculpted into the front fenders. Gone were the pop up style headlights that graced the front fascia of the Corvette for the previous 40 plus years.

From a performance standpoint the first C6’s rolled out with an enhanced suspension and Chevy’s new 6.0 Liter engine. The performance of the C6 rivals any of the super luxury cars from Germany or Italy at a fraction of the price. The 2005 C6 Corvette rushes from zero to 60 mph in an adrenaline-pumping 4.2 seconds continuing on to a top speed of 186 mph. Changes were made to the interior and passenger compartment as well, adding more space, within a slightly shortened body.

In 2006 Chevy amped it up even further by introducing a 7.0L engine, the Z06. At roughly 427 cu. in. the 7.0L engine was a distant cousin to the 427’s powering the second generation Corvettes in the mid 60’s. Paddle shifting was also available with the Z06’s 6 –speed automatic transmission.

In 2009 Chevy introduced the ZR1 model C6 capable of greater than 600 horsepower and top speeds over 200 mph.
